Our first port of call was Opatija, Croatia.
Opatija is a resort town in the northwest of Croatia and is home to around 11,000 people.
Tendering
As Opatija is a very small town it does not have port facilities big enough to handle the Azamara Pursuit. Time for tendering. Thankfully Azamara Pursuit is a not a large ship so getting a tender does not take much time and effort.
Opajita
As we had a fairly short stay in Opajita and there were no ships tours that were that interesting, we decided to take a stroll along the foreshore. It was also hot hot hot, so a shortish walk was the plan, as well as keeping out of the sun.
2024 Meter Maids?
Whilst having a coffee before heading back to the ship I noticed this car with a couple of strange “pods” on the roof, so decided to look closer. When I saw the big “P” on the side of the car, I realised that it was a parking monitor and that pods on top housed some cameras. In Opatija they use optical readers to read license plates, payment is made via an online money transfer. Seems like a good approach.
Fly Past
Whilst chilling I noticed a couple of jets fly past. I am assuming that they were a couple of Dassault Rafales as they Croatian Air Force has a few.
Opatija from Azamara Pursuit
Opatija looks like a nice place, but not on a day as hot as the one were there for, 39C ish. It was nice to get back on board ship and its air conditioning.
The dinner, after sailing from Opatija, is the French Chef’s Table. Will be interesting to see how it compares to my previous experience at the French Chef’s Table on Azamara Quest.
Itinerary
Our next port of call is Zadar, Croatia.

Tendering was my least favorite thing about the cruise I took a couple of years ago. But we were on a Norwegian ship, and it was HUGE. Have never traveled with Azamara. Good??
Hi, can imagine how much of a challenge it would be on a large ship.
Azamara is pretty good, especially if you get one of the larger suites, lots of extra perks that I will be writing about soon.
They are decent value for money, great crew, good food etc, plus a max of 700 ish passengers onboard.
700 is nothing compared to the nearly 3,000 that were on Norwegian!!
Yeah, the other difference is that the crowd on board Azamara are usually older, so, hopefully, a bit less disorganised.
Less mod cons on an Azamara ship though, no water slides etc.
