My last day in Rio included an interesting sunrise and more touring of the city starting with one of Rio’s Farmer’s Markets.

Sunrise
One of the things I liked about Rio was its sunrise. Every day I was in Rio there was a lot of fog and mist that drifted in and out make for an interesting sunrise.

What do you think?
Day 4 in Rio
Another day of touring Rio with Gus was the plan. Unfortunately, Gus was not well so he asked one of his friends and fellow tour guide Mathias to take over and be my guide for the day.

Mathias is a local from Rio, a Carioca, with German ancestry who is into cycling. He takes tour groups up to the statue, as well as ride it for fun. Not sure after my years riding in Singapore that my legs have that sort of climb in them.
Praça Edmundo Bitencourt – Copacabana – Farmer’s Market
Our first stop was a Farmer’s Market. I think that the one we visited was the Praça Edmundo Bitencourt – Copacabana Farmer’s Market.
A good selection of veggies, fish and meats.
This is definitely a locals market, I think I was the only tourist wandering around when we were there.
The fruit and veggies were definitely fresh. Loved the bright colours of them, something I miss in Singapore due to the need to ship all our fruit and veg in.
Chili!
I have a bit of a problem when it comes to chili, no spice no life, so I was extremely happy when I found this stall. Mathias convinced me, well it did not take too much, to grab a bottle of this guy’s chili sauce.

It is awesome, definitely not for the feint hearted. It is made with all of the chilies he has on the table.
Breaky
After wandering around the market it was time for some breaky, so time to try another local dish, pastéis. So it isn’t that healthy, a deep fried savoury pastry, I had one that was filled with mince, mozzarella, onion, green seasoning, egg, olive and oregano. Very tasty, accompanying it was fresh sugarcane juice. A great start to the day.
Praça Edmundo Bitencourt – Copacabana -Farmer’s Market
This Farmer’s Market is worth a visit. It is only open in the morning and becomes an organic market on Saturdays.

Next up is a visit to the some of the National Parks in and around Rio.
