The 2015 SEA Games, or the 28th South East Asia Games, finished on 16 Jun 2015 with a fireworks display, unfortunately there was no wind again and my view of the fireworks was progressively blocked by the smoke from each of the previous sets of fireworks.
The SEA Games Flame
The reported cost of the 28th SEA Games was around SGD324 million. No idea if this event generated the same or more revenue or how many visitors came to Singapore to spectate. I guess one of the benefits of the games was that Singapore did get to show the place off!
There were around 4,800 athletes from 11 nations who competed in the 36 disciplines / sports. The 28th SEA Games was the first for Timor-Leste

Interesting 28th SEA Games Stories
- During the Mens Marathon Singaporean Runner Ashley Liew slowed down for the other competitors who were in front of him until they took a wrong turn, letting them past once they had realised their error and returned to the actual course. If he had not decided to slow down he would have won the race
- The Singaporean Young Lions Soccer Team Coach resigned straight after the team lost to Indonesia 1-0 in the quarter finals, their worst performance in the games. The Gold Medal was won by Thailand, 3-0 vs Myanmar
- Several cyclists from Malaysia and Singapore had food poisoning which impacted their ability to perform during their events. Apparently this was the second time that food poisoning had occurred during a major sporting event in Singapore, the first case occurred during the 2010 Youth Olympic Games
- The Philippines Women’s Volleyball Team demanded that the Games Officials perform a test on one of the Vietnamese Players to confirm their gender. The request was denied. She does look very manly, so I can understand why.
